OUTBermuda Youth Ambassador

Role Overview:

OUTBermuda is seeking a dedicated and passionate Youth Ambassador to represent Bermuda's LGBTQ+ youth as a member of the OUTBermuda Programs Committee. This role involves leading and organizing the signature youth program "OUTLET" with the support of OUTBermuda and Solstice, attending OUTBermuda board meetings, and representing OUTBermuda and OUTLET in various public spaces. This is a fantastic leadership and development opportunity for LGBTQ+ youth to gain and improve skills in event planning, representation, public speaking, and advocacy. Support and informal training will be available from Solstice and OUTBermuda if desired.

The Youth Ambassador will receive a $1000 stipend per year as token of appreciation for their work.

Application Process:

Interested candidates should submit their application, including a resume and a cover letter via the OUTBermuda website by July 10th. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a virtual interview week of July 15th with the selected applicant being announced shortly after.

The cover letter should be no longer that 600 words and should include answers to the following:

  • Why are interested in this role?
  • Describe any experience you have in public speaking, event planning, or representing an organization or community. How have these experiences prepared you for this role?
  • What do you hope to learn and what skills would you like to develop through this experience?

Please note, you will need to be living on island from August 1 2024 - July 31st 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent Bermuda's LGBTQ+ youth on the OUTBermuda Programs Committee.
  • Lead and organize the "OUTLET" youth program, including planning monthly sessions with varied activities and guest speakers.
  • Attend OUTBermuda board meetings to provide updates and give input when required.
  • Represent OUTBermuda and OUTLET in other spaces, such as the National Youth Policy Working Group and public events when required.

Key Requirements:

  • Aged 18-24
  • Identify as LGBTQ+
  • Reside in Bermuda for the full duration of the role (1 year)
  • Can dedicate 8-12 hours per month to the role
  • Passion for LGBTQ+ rights and supporting LGBTQ+ peers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some experience in public speaking, event planning, and/or representation
  • Previous engagement with the local LGBTQ+ community, particularly The Village or OUTLET

About OUTLET:

OUTLET is a peer support group for LGBTQ+ youth and allies ages 14-24. It was created to uplift and support LGBTQ+ youth by providing a safe space for young people to connect, share experiences, and build healthy communities. Hosted by OUTBermuda and Solstice, OUTLET is a safe and confidential space defined by promoting equality, fairness, non-violence, and the affirmation of the unconditional value of all people. This environment allows youth to grow, thrive, and express their individual identities freely.
